How To Make Soft Butter Naan Without Tandoor Or Oven

 Soft Butter Naan

soft butter naan

Butter Naan is a soft and extremely delicious Indian bread that is often served on special occasions or at festivals. Naan is basically a leavened flatbread that is mostly cooked in a clay oven (tandoor). In Indian restaurants, naan is the most ordered flatbread eaten with dal (lentils) or curries. Butter Naan is very famous for its buttery texture and flavor. The recipe which I’m going to share does not require a tandoor to cook it. Just follow the simple tips and tricks to make it.

INGREDIENTS:

  • All-purpose flour- 2 cups
  • Plain yogurt – ½ cups
  • Milk (lukewarm) – 6 to 8 tbsp
  • Garlic (grated) – 2
  • Sugar – 2 tsp
  • Salt – ½ tsp or as required
  • Oil or butter – 2 tbsp
  • Baking powder – ½ tsp
  •  Baking soda – ¼ tsp

FOR TOPPINGS:

  • Coriander leaves (finely chopped) – ¼ cup
  • Kalonji seeds- 1 tsp
  • Garlic (chopped or sliced) – 5 to 6 cloves
  • Butter (melted) – 3 tbsp

PREPARATION:

  1. In a bowl, add flour, salt, sugar, garlic, baking powder, and soda. Give a mix and add yogurt, warm milk, and oil. Mix to form a dough adding warm milk little by little. The dough should be elastic type and soft.
  2. You can make the naan instantly or you can keep the dough to rest for 1-2 hours in a warm place.
  3. Now grease your fingers and divide the dough into 6-7 parts.
  4. Make smooth and crack-free balls and cover them until you roll them.

PROCESS:

  1. Dust the rolling area and start to roll a dough ball to 8-9 inches long and 4-5 inches wide.
  2. Sprinkle some sliced garlic, coriander leaves, and kalonji seeds. Press down a little or gently roll them.
  3. Now begin to heat a pan or a griddle. Transfer a naan to it and within some time you will see bubbles on top of it.
  4. Flip it with the help of a tong or directly over the stovetop. You can also place a wired rack on the stove and let it cook.
  5. When brown spots will appear on the naan, remove it to a plate and brush it with some butter.
  6. Butter Naan is ready. Serve with Dal makhani, Butter chicken, or any other Indian gravy, and enjoy!

CONCLUSION:

Butter Naan is one of the most popular flatbreads of Asian origin. The authentic way of making naan includes tandoor but in this recipe, I have used a simple method of making it in a skillet or tawa. This will taste the same as the restaurant or dhaba ones. This Butter Naan is best paired with Indian gravies like dal makhani, butter chicken, tandoori chicken, gobhi masala, kadhai chicken, and many more.
