Instant Suji Cheela is a very good breakfast option if you want to start your day with some healthy yet delicious food. ‘Semolina’ is the main ingredient in this cheela. ‘Suji’ is the Hindi word for semolina and ‘Cheela’ is like a crispy and savory pancake that can be made of whole-wheat flour, gram flour, or semolina with lots of vegetables.

INGREDIENTS:

  • Semolina (suji) – 1 cup
  • Curd – 1 cup
  • Onion (finely chopped) – 1 large
  • Tomato (finely chopped) – 1 medium
  • Capsicum (finely chopped) – 1 medium
  • Carrot (grated) – 1 medium
  • Coriander leaves (finely chopped) – 2 tbsp
  • Red chilli powder – 1 tsp
  • Ginger (grated) – 2 tsp
  • Green chilli (finely chopped) – 1
  • Salt – 2 tsp or as required
  • Vegetable oil – 2 tbsp
  • Water – 1 cup

PREPARATION:

  1. Take a big bowl; add suji, curd, red chilli powder, salt, and ¾ cup of water. Mix everything with a help of a whisker. Make sure there are no lumps.
  2. Let the batter/mixture rest for 15-20 minutes or till the semolina swells properly.
  3. After 15-20 minutes, add the finely chopped onion, capsicum, carrot, tomato, and coriander leaves. Add the chopped green chilli, and grated ginger and give a nice mix.
  4. If the batter is very thick then add a little bit of water to get the perfect flowy type consistency.

PROCESS:

  1. Take a dosa pan and grease it with some oil on medium flame.
  2. Now spread a ladleful of the suji mixture into the pan thickly and evenly.
  3. Pour a little bit of oil on the sides of the cheela.
  4. Cover the cheela for 1 or 2 minutes and cook well.
  5. Now flip the cheela carefully without breaking it and gently press it to cook the other side as well till light golden colour appears.
  6. Continue to cook the cheela for another minute or till it is completely cooked from both sides.
  7. Instant suji cheela is ready. Serve it with some green mint or coriander chutney or tomato ketchup. Enjoy a healthy and tasty breakfast!
