Instant Soft Dhokla
Dhokla is a Gujarati delicacy prepared with gram flour
or besan. in Hindi, Gram flour is known as “Besan”. This Instant Soft Dhokla is
a savory cake made with lentils and rice. Dhokla can be enjoyed for breakfast
as well as snacks. This is a tasty yet easy steamed savory cake that you
can make instantly.
INGREDIENTS:
FOR DHOKLA BATTER:
- Gram flour or Besan – 1 ½ cup
- Sugar – ½ tsp
- Salt – ½ tsp
- Turmeric powder – ½ tsp
- Eno (regular fruit salt) – 1 tsp
- Water – as required
FOR
DHOKLA SYRUP:
- Mustard seeds – ½ tsp
- Green chillies (slit) – 5
- Coriander leaves (finely chopped) – 2 tsp
- Curry leaves – 7-8
- Lemon juice – ½ tsp
- Oil – 1 tsp
- Water – ½ cup
- Salt – ½ tsp
- Sugar – 2 tsp
PREPARATION:
- Take a bowl; add the Gram flour or Besan, salt, turmeric powder, and sugar. Mix everything nicely.
- Add water and whisk everything nicely. The consistency of the batter should be flowy and not very thick.
- Keep it aside for about 10 minutes.
- In a pressure cooker or pot, add some water and place a wire stand inside the cooker. Let the water boil.
PROCESS:
- Grease a cake tin with some oil.
- Add eno (regular) just before pouring the batter into the tin.
- Now immediately pour the batter into the tin.
- When the water will start to boil in the pressure cooker, then place the Dhokla batter cake tin on the wire stand and close the cooker. Let it steam for about 20 minutes on low to medium flame.
- After 20 minutes, check the Dhokla and insert a toothpick into it. If it comes out clean, then it’s ready; if not, cook for another 5-10 minutes.
- Carefully remove the Dhokla from the tin and let it cool down.
- Heat a frying pan and add oil. Then add mustard seeds and wait till it starts to splutter. Now add slit green chillies and curry leaves into the pan.
- After 1 min, pour water and add some salt and sugar.
- Boil everything and turn off the flame.
- Now add lemon juice and coriander leaves. Mix everything nicely.
- Cut the Dhokla into small pieces and pour the tempered syrup onto the Dhokla.
- Let the Dhokla soak the syrup and garnish it with some coriander leaves and grated coconut.
- Enjoy the Instant Soft Dhokla with some green mint chutney.
