Methi chicken is a popular dish made with fresh fenugreek leaves (methi), curd and some Indian spices. Methi chicken is also known as Methi Murg. INGREDIENTS:

  • Chicken – 1 kg
  • Fresh fenugreek leaves (methi) – 2 cups
  • Onions (finely chopped) – 2 medium
  • Ginger (finely chopped) - 2 tsp
  • Garlic (finely chopped) - 2 tsp
  • Tomatoes (puree) – 2 small
  • Green chillies (slit) – 2
  • Yogurt (beaten) – 2 tbsp
  • Red chilli powder – 3 tsp
  • Turmeric powder – ½ tsp
  • Coriander powder – 2 tsp
  • Cumin powder – ½ tsp
  • Garam masala powder – ½ tsp
  • Cumin seeds – ½ tsp
  • Salt – 2 tsp or as required
  • Oil – 3 tbsp

METHOD:

  1. Take a kadhai, heat some oil, and add cumin seeds. Now add finely chopped ginger and garlic. Fry for 1 minute on medium flame.
  2. Add the finely chopped onion and sauté till golden brown in colour.
  3. Add the slit green chillies and fry for a minute on medium flame.
  4. Now add the chicken pieces, beaten yogurt, and salt as per your taste. Mix and fry for 5 minutes on medium flame.
  5. Now add coriander powder red chilli powder and turmeric powder. Fry for 2 minutes on low to medium flame.
  6. Add tomato puree and fry until the oil separates from the masala.
  7. Add the fresh fenugreek leaves (methi) and fry on a medium flame for about 5 minutes.
  8. When the methi chicken will start releasing oil and a beautiful fragrance then add the garam masala powder.
  9. Cover and cook for a couple of minutes and your delicious Dhaba Style Methi Chicken is ready to be served.
